AI and Health

Lots of little tweeks to the site over the last few weeks. A teams and acknowledgement page to thank those who have sent us material, as well as to co-locate links to good material.
An amazing addition has come thanks to the work of John Sutton, who has managed to get a scan of the famous Ely report. Very often quoted, but you might find it a little elusive. In fact it was extremely difficult to find in the National Archives and suggest many people were relying on either local library copies or the more common secondary works that discuss the findings of Ely. It is being added to the main database and can be downloaded from here.
Work continues on closing out gaps in the prevention of future deaths database. The pdfs on the gov site are not uniformly produced, so many are not OCR compatible, or have had settings saved which prevent text extraction. This is quite common in reports from a range of bodies and is deeply frustrating as it doesn't really protect anything, but it does make the document extremely difficult for legitimate users to use.
Finally, an experiment. 31 reports and papers drawn from the resources below were loaded up in to an AI system which as well as normal analysis can also produce an AI podcast discussing the materials. The AI speakers reference the works as they go through, based on the file names so its a little clunky. On these settings they don't 'hallucinate' so everything they say is from or synthesised from the reports. See what you think - I will produce a tidier version in future weeks. I don't think its of huge practical use, but its quite interesting to see where the technology is now. You can listen to the wav file here. The files and link it draws on are:
Berwick review into patient safety
The Morecambe Bay Investigation
Independent review into Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust
The Infected Blood Inquiry
The Gosport Independent Panel
The Independent Inquiry into issues raised by Paterson
The Independent Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Review
The Independent Review of Maternity Services at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust
The investigation into maternity and neonatal services at East Kent Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
See you next week!
Steve
